About Digitalist

I began writing this blog at the beginning of 2009. At the time I was working in the libraries at the University of Oxford. I started off writing about my observations of libraries, higher education, and technology.

Throughout the seven years I wrote for this blog there have been many shifts in its focus, as my circumstances and career has changed. One thing has remained the same – the focus on digital media and its impact on our working lives.

In mid-2016 I stopped writing this blog. What remains is an archive of my thoughts and development on digital matters in the context of libraries and higher education.

Where the blog’s title comes from

Digitalists are:

“Those who are comfortable using a range of digital media and are open to the changes that digitisation brings to society.”
Martin Weller

By this definition I am a digitalist. Are you?

Through all my roles in UK universities I have been aware of the need to be open to the changes and challenges that digitisation is bringing to education. Thankfully it’s something that I am interested in and you might say passionate about. Keeping up to date with the changes comes easily to me and I share what I’m learning through this blog.

  1. Hi,

I’m editor of the Open Rights Group magazine (ORGzine). We would like to run a Book Week, in support of the Fight for Libraries campaign. This is scheduled for the week beginning 31st January.

We already have interviews with Neil Gaiman and Hari Kunzru confirmed, along with some other great content.

I was hoping you might be able to contribute a piece on how and why technology and digitisation is valuable to libraries and library users.

If you’re interested and would like to discuss this further, please get in touch with me: orgzine.editor@openrightsgroup.org.

I really hope to hear back from you!

    Best wishes,

    Iman
